PN20 GF reinforced PPR pipe (SDR 7.4)
The glass fibre reinforced middle layer gives this pipe its PN20 pressure class at SDR 7.4 and keeps its thermal expansion low, so it holds its line and shape under pressure surges and high water temperatures. This makes it suited to heating circuits and hot water lines, within an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C.

Description and application
The THERMALINO PN20 PPR fiber composite pipe is a three-layer PP-R pipe with a glass fibre reinforced middle layer, made for heating systems and for hot and cold water lines. It is supplied in diameters from 20 to 110 mm (SDR 7.4) in 4 m lengths and is joined by socket fusion.
The PN20 GF reinforced PPR pipe from the THERMALINO Eternal line is a PPR fiber composite pipe for heating, hot water and cold water installations. Its wall is built in three layers: inner and outer layers of PP-R and a middle layer of PP-R blended with glass fibre. This middle layer gives the pipe a low coefficient of thermal expansion and a PN20 pressure class at SDR 7.4. Because it expands little when heated, the pipe keeps its straight line and its shape under sudden pressure changes and at high water temperatures, which makes it a natural choice for radiator circuits, boiler rooms and hot water distribution. Its operating temperature is 70 °C, with a maximum of 95 °C. It conforms to TS 13715. Pressure ratings at different temperatures and the service life table are given in the technical data sheet. The range covers outside diameters of 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 63, 75, 90 and 110 mm, from Ø20x2.8 to Ø110x15.1, all in 4 m lengths. It is available in white, in grey with a double strip and in green with a double strip. The pipe is joined to PP-R fittings by socket fusion: the pipe end and the fitting socket are heated with a fusion tool and pushed together, forming one continuous piece of material with no glue, thread or seal in the joint. Connections to valves, pumps, boilers and other metal components are made with PP-R transition fittings that carry threaded inserts.

Questions
- Can a PPR fiber composite pipe be used for boiler room and central heating piping between the boiler, manifolds and radiators?
- Yes, the THERMALINO PN20 PPR fiber composite pipe is intended for heating systems, including boiler room and radiator piping. Its glass fibre reinforced middle layer keeps thermal expansion low and gives it a PN20 class at SDR 7.4, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C. Check that the flow temperature of the system stays within these values; the pressure ratings at each temperature are in the technical data sheet.
- Is a glass fibre reinforced PPR pipe suitable for a hot water recirculation line that runs continuously in a hotel or apartment building?
- Yes, the PN20 glass fibre reinforced PPR pipe is suitable for hot water recirculation lines, as it is rated for hot water with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C. The low thermal expansion of the glass fibre layer helps long recirculation runs keep their line as the water temperature changes. Size the line using the pressure and service life values in the technical data sheet, and insulate it to limit heat loss.
- How is a PPR fiber composite pipe joined to fittings, valves and a boiler in a hot water or heating installation?
- The PPR fiber composite pipe is joined to PP-R fittings by socket fusion, where the pipe end and fitting socket are heated with a fusion tool and pressed together into one solid joint. No glue or thread is used between PP-R parts. Valves, pumps and boilers are connected through PP-R transition fittings with threaded inserts, and the system is pressure tested by the installer before use.
- Which PPR fiber composite pipe size is normally used where a drawing or an older steel installation calls for a 1 inch line?
- A 1 inch line is commonly matched with the 32 mm PPR fiber composite pipe (Ø32x4.4), although the final choice should be checked against the required flow, because the plastic wall makes the bore of a PP-R pipe differ from a steel pipe of the same nominal size. The THERMALINO range runs from Ø20x2.8 to Ø110x15.1 mm.
- For hot water and heating lines in a residential building, should an installer choose a PPR fiber composite pipe or a PVC pipe?
- For hot water and heating lines, a PPR fiber composite pipe is the appropriate choice, as it is rated for an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C and is joined by socket fusion. PVC and uPVC pipes are generally used for cold water and drainage rather than hot water or heating circuits.
- What are the limitations of a PPR fiber composite pipe that an installer should consider before using it in a heating or hot water system?
- The main limitations of the PPR fiber composite pipe are its temperature limits, an operating temperature of 70 °C with a maximum of 95 °C, and the pressure ratings, which fall as the temperature rises, as shown in the technical data sheet. Joints can only be made by socket fusion with PP-R fittings, so a fusion tool is needed. Thermal expansion is low but not zero, so long runs still need proper supports and allowance for movement.
