PPR Ball valve
The valve is in pressure class PN25, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C, so it may be installed in hot water and heating lines as well as cold water lines. The permissible pressure at each temperature is given in the technical data sheet.

Description and application
The THERMALINO PPR ball valve is a quarter-turn shut-off valve for PP-R pipe systems that fully opens or closes a hot or cold water line with a 90-degree turn of the handle. Its socket fusion ends are welded directly to PP-R pipe, and PTFE sealing elements around the CW617N brass ball give a tight shut-off.
The PPR ball valve is an on/off valve for PP-R pipe installations. A 90-degree turn of the handle fully opens or closes the line, so a section of the system, a fixture or an appliance can be isolated quickly for maintenance or in an emergency. It is designed to be opened and closed many times over a long service life. The body is PP-R. The ball and the insert are CW617N brass, so apart from the PP-R, the parts in contact with the water are brass, together with the PTFE sealing elements. These sealing elements give a tight shut-off, including at high pressure. The valve conforms to EN ISO 16135 and is rated PN25, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C. The permissible pressure at each temperature and over the service life is given in the technical data sheet. Both ends are socket fusion connections. The valve is welded into the line with the same fusion tool and heating heads used for PP-R pipes and fittings. This makes the joint part of the pipe itself, with no threads, sealing tape or sealant. Use it on mains, risers and branch lines, and in front of water heaters and appliances, wherever a section of a PP-R system needs to be shut off. This valve belongs to the Eternal line and comes in Ø20, Ø25, Ø32, Ø40 and Ø50. It is available in white, grey and green, so it can match the colour of the pipe line.

Questions
- What is the purpose of a PPR ball valve in the hot and cold water installation of a house or apartment building?
- A PPR ball valve shuts off or opens the water in a section of a PP-R installation with a quarter turn of the handle, so the section can be isolated for maintenance or in an emergency. Inside the valve is a CW617N brass ball with a bore through it. When the bore lines up with the pipe, water flows. When the ball is turned 90 degrees, PTFE sealing elements close the line tightly. The valve is meant for on/off duty, not for regulating flow.
- How can I tell whether the PPR ball valve on my water supply line is open or closed just by looking at it?
- On a lever-handle PPR ball valve, the handle shows the position: when the handle runs in line with the pipe, the valve is open, and when it sits across the pipe at 90 degrees, the valve is closed. Because the valve works with a quarter turn, there is no in-between position for normal use. If the handle position and the water flow do not match, the valve should be checked by a qualified installer.
- How much pressure can a PPR ball valve handle in a domestic hot water line running close to its operating temperature?
- The THERMALINO PPR ball valve is in pressure class PN25 to EN ISO 16135, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C. With PP-R, the permissible pressure falls as the temperature rises, so the figure for a hot water line depends on the actual water temperature. The permissible pressure at each temperature is given in the technical data sheet. Check it against the system pressure when you select the valve.
- What sizes does the PPR ball valve come in, and which size do I use on a PP-R line where a 1/2 inch valve is specified?
- The PPR ball valve comes in Ø20, Ø25, Ø32, Ø40 and Ø50, and the Ø20 size is the one used on a Ø20 PP-R line, which is commonly referred to as 1/2 inch. The valve size is chosen to match the outside diameter of the PP-R pipe it is welded to. It is available in white, grey and green, and the dimensions for each size are in the technical data sheet.
- How is a PPR ball valve joined to PP-R pipe in a new installation, and does it need threads or sealing tape?
- A PPR ball valve is joined to PP-R pipe by socket fusion and needs no threads, sealing tape or sealant. Both ends of the valve are fusion sockets. The installer heats the pipe end and the valve socket together with the same fusion tool and heating heads used for PP-R pipes and fittings, then pushes them together so the joint fuses into one piece. Follow the fusion instructions for the pipe system, and let the joints cool before the line is put under pressure.
- Why does a PPR ball valve in a hard-water area get hard to turn after some years, and how can I tell if it is faulty?
- A PPR ball valve usually becomes hard to turn after years of service because scale from hard water or debris builds up on the ball, or because it has stayed in one position for a long time. Stiffness alone does not mean the valve is faulty. Signs of a faulty valve are water still passing when the valve is closed, weeping around the handle stem or body, or a handle that turns without stopping the flow. The valve is welded into the line and the system is under pressure, so a qualified installer should check it and replace it if needed. Never force the handle.
