PPR End plug
This plug has a male BSP parallel (G) thread. It screws into a female threaded outlet of the same size, such as an outlet left for a tap or mixer. The outlet can be closed and opened again without cutting or welding, but the plug cannot close a plain pipe end.

Description and application
The THERMALINO PPR plug is a PP-R end plug with a male BSP parallel (G) thread. It screws into a 1/2" or 3/4" female threaded outlet to close it, most often for a short time while a hot and cold water installation is pressure tested before the taps and mixers are fitted. It is rated PN25 and made to EN ISO 15874-3.
The PPR End Plug from the THERMALINO Eternal line is a threaded PPR plug that closes female threaded outlets in PP-R pipeline systems. It has a male BSP parallel (G) thread and comes in 1/2" and 3/4". It is supplied in white, grey and green, so it can match the colour of the rest of the installation. It is made from prime-grade PP-R (polypropylene random copolymer, type 3) and conforms to EN ISO 15874-3, the standard for polypropylene fittings in hot and cold water installations. Its nominal pressure is PN25, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C. Pressure ratings at other temperatures and service lives are given in the technical data sheet. On site, the end plug is most often used as a temporary closure. Taps, mixers and other fittings are usually installed near the end of construction so that ongoing building work does not damage them. Until then, each open threaded outlet is closed with a plug. The system can then be filled and pressure tested, and the whole network checked for leaks. Once the fittings are ready, the plug is unscrewed and the tap or mixer is connected to the same outlet. Where an outlet is kept for a later connection, the plug can stay in place. The plug screws into a female G thread of the same size, and the thread is sealed with a suitable sealant such as PTFE tape. Because it is a threaded part, it can be removed without cutting the pipe or making a new weld.

Questions
- What are the uses of a PPR plug in a new hot and cold water installation before the taps and mixers are fitted?
- A PPR plug closes the open threaded outlets of a new installation so the system can be filled and pressure tested before the taps and mixers are fitted. Leaving the fixtures until later keeps them safe from damage during construction. When they are ready, the plug is unscrewed and the fixture is connected to the same outlet. The plug can also stay in place on an outlet kept for a later connection.
- Which thread does the PPR end plug have, and which outlets in a PP-R system will the 1/2" and 3/4" sizes fit?
- The THERMALINO PPR end plug has a male BSP parallel (G) thread. It fits female G threaded outlets of the same size, 1/2" or 3/4". It is meant for threaded outlets, such as the female threaded fittings at tap and mixer points, and cannot close a plain pipe end. The thread is sealed with a suitable sealant such as PTFE tape before the plug is screwed in.
- Can a PPR plug stay in the tap outlets while a hot and cold water system is pressure tested, and what is its pressure rating?
- Yes, the THERMALINO PPR plug is meant to close tap outlets during a system pressure test, and it is rated PN25 to EN ISO 15874-3. The test pressure and how long the test lasts are set by the project specification and the applicable rules, and a qualified installer carries out the test. Allowable pressures at different temperatures are given in the technical data sheet.
- Can a PPR end plug be used on the hot water outlets and heating lines of a building, and what temperature can it handle?
- Yes, the PPR end plug can be used on hot water outlets and heating lines. Its operating temperature is 70 °C and its maximum temperature is 95 °C. It is made of PP-R to EN ISO 15874-3, the standard for hot and cold water installations, with nominal pressure PN25. Pressure ratings at higher temperatures are lower, and the full table is in the technical data sheet.
