PPR End plug with o-ring
The 1/2" male thread is BSP parallel (G), so the joint is sealed by the o-ring, not by the thread itself. The plug screws into a 1/2" G female threaded outlet without PTFE tape or hemp, and comes out cleanly when the tap or mixer is fitted.

Description and application
The THERMALINO PPR test plug with o-ring is a white 1/2" PP-R end plug with a BSP parallel (G) male thread. It closes open threaded outlets so that a new hot and cold water installation can be pressure tested before taps and mixers are fitted. The o-ring seals the joint without PTFE tape or hemp, so the plug is quick to fit and to remove.
The PPR end plug with o-ring is a threaded closing fitting from the Eternal line of THERMALINO PPR pipeline systems. It is used as a PPR test plug: it closes the open threaded outlets of a new installation, so the pipework can be filled and pressure tested while the building is still under construction. Taps, mixers and other finishing parts are not fitted at this stage and are kept safe from site damage. Instead, their connection points are closed with the plug until the system has passed its test. The plug is made of PP-R (polypropylene random copolymer, type 3) and conforms to EN ISO 15874-3. It has nominal pressure class PN25, an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C, so it can close outlets on both cold and hot water lines. It is supplied in size 1/2" and in white. This plug has a male thread, BSP parallel (G), with an o-ring. With a parallel thread, the seal comes from the o-ring rather than from the thread, so no PTFE tape, hemp or jointing paste is needed. The installer screws it into a 1/2" G female outlet until the o-ring seats, then removes it once the test is complete and the final fitting is due to go in. This saves time on sites with many outlets and leaves the female thread clean for the tap connection. The test pressure and duration are set by the installer, following local regulations and the system design. They must never exceed the rating of the weakest component in the system. Permissible pressures at different temperatures are given in the technical data sheet.
- Pressure testing of new hot and cold water installations before taps and mixers are fitted
- Temporary closing of threaded outlets in houses, apartment blocks and hotels during construction
- Hospitals, schools and office buildings with PP-R water distribution, during commissioning
- PP-R heating pipework, during filling and pressure testing, within the PN25 class and the 70 °C operating / 95 °C maximum temperature
- Temporary closing of outlets during renovation, repair or maintenance work
- Prefabricated pipework assemblies and modules, during pressure testing

Questions
- What is a PPR test plug used for when pressure testing a new hot and cold water installation in a residential building?
- A PPR test plug temporarily closes the open threaded outlets of a new PP-R installation, so the system can be filled and pressure tested before taps and mixers are fitted. The THERMALINO 1/2" end plug screws into the outlet with its BSP parallel (G) male thread and o-ring. This keeps finishing parts away from building work until the pipework has passed its test. It is removed when the final fitting is installed.
- Do I need PTFE tape or hemp on the thread of a PPR test plug with o-ring when closing 1/2 inch outlets?
- No, the THERMALINO PPR test plug with o-ring needs no PTFE tape, hemp or jointing paste, because the o-ring makes the seal. Its male thread is BSP parallel (G), and a parallel thread holds the parts together but does not seal by itself. This is why fitting and removing the plug is quick, even on sites with many outlets.
- Which outlets does a 1/2 inch PPR test plug with a BSP parallel thread fit in a PP-R plumbing system?
- The THERMALINO PPR test plug fits 1/2" female threaded outlets with a BSP parallel (G) thread, the size usually used for tap and mixer connections. The plug has a G male thread, so it is not meant for outlets with other thread standards, such as NPT. Check the thread type of the outlet before fitting.
- How much pressure can a PPR test plug take when the hot water line is tested or run at high temperature?
- The THERMALINO PPR test plug has nominal pressure class PN25, an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C, to EN ISO 15874-3. As with all PP-R components, the permissible pressure falls as the temperature rises. The full pressure and temperature table is in the technical data sheet. The installer sets the test pressure according to local rules, and it must never exceed the rating of the weakest component in the system.
- Can a PPR test plug with o-ring stay permanently in an unused outlet of a domestic water system?
- The THERMALINO PPR test plug is intended mainly for temporary use: it closes outlets during pressure testing and construction until the final fitting is installed. Whether an outlet may stay closed with it for good is decided by the installer, under local regulations and the conditions of the system. For a permanent closure, contact us for the technical data sheet and advice on a suitable fitting.
