PPR Female elbow
The brass insert has a BSP parallel (G) female thread, so the male part screwed into it must also have a BSP thread. NPT threads do not match and should not be used. The joint is sealed with a thread sealant or sealing face suited to the medium and temperature.
Description and application
The PPR female elbow is a 90° PP-R fitting that turns a line through a right angle. One end is socket-fused to the PP-R pipe; the other ends in a CW617N brass BSP female thread for taps, valves and other male-threaded parts. This PPR female threaded elbow is rated PN25 and made to EN ISO 15874-3.
The PPR female elbow changes the direction of a PP-R line by 90° and gives a threaded outlet at the bend. One end is a socket for fusing to the pipe. The other end has a female thread on a brass insert. Installers use it where a PP-R line has to connect to a tap, valve, water heater, meter or metal fitting with a male thread. The body is made from prime-grade PP-R (polypropylene random copolymer, type 3) to EN ISO 15874-3. It is designed for socket fusion with THERMALINO PP-R pipes, giving a homogeneous joint and a long service life. The threaded insert is CW617N brass made to European norms, with a lead content below 2.2 %. The thread is BSP parallel, also called G or gas thread. The fitting is rated PN25, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C, so it can be used in both hot and cold water lines. The range covers Ø20 x 1/2", Ø25 x 1/2", Ø25 x 3/4", Ø32 x 3/4" and Ø32 x 1". The first figure is the outside diameter of the PP-R pipe in millimetres and the second is the thread size. The two 1/2" sizes are the usual choice for tap and fixture points. To install, the plastic end is joined with a socket fusion welding tool, the same way as the rest of the system. A BSP male thread is then screwed into the brass insert, using a suitable thread sealant. Pressure ratings at different temperatures and service lives are given in the technical data sheet.

Questions
- How is a PPR female elbow joined to the PP-R pipe, and how is the threaded fitting connected to it?
- A PPR female elbow is joined at its plastic end by socket fusion, and the male-threaded part is then screwed into its brass female thread. The pipe and the fitting socket are heated together on a socket fusion welding tool and pushed together, forming one homogeneous joint. The female thread is BSP parallel (G) in CW617N brass, sealed with a thread sealant suited to the medium and temperature.
- Which PPR female elbow size do I need for a 25 mm PP-R pipe feeding a 3/4 inch threaded valve?
- For a 25 mm PP-R pipe and a 3/4" valve, choose the Ø25 x 3/4" PPR female elbow. The first figure is the outside diameter of the pipe in millimetres and the second is the BSP thread size. The range is Ø20 x 1/2", Ø25 x 1/2", Ø25 x 3/4", Ø32 x 3/4" and Ø32 x 1", so a 3/4" thread is available on both 25 mm and 32 mm pipe.
- Can a PPR elbow with thread be used on hot water and central heating lines in a residential building?
- Yes. This PPR elbow with thread is rated PN25, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C, so it can be used on hot water lines and on heating connections within those limits. The pressure it can take falls as temperature and service life rise. The full table is in the technical data sheet.
- Will a fitting with an NPT male thread screw into a PPR female threaded elbow with a BSP thread?
- No. A PPR female threaded elbow has a BSP parallel (G) thread, so it needs a BSP male thread, not NPT. The two thread forms have different profiles and pitches. Mixing them is a common cause of leaking threaded joints, so check the thread standard of the tap, valve or adaptor before installing.
- What is the difference between a PPR female elbow, a male elbow and a plain PPR elbow when planning a water installation?
- A PPR female elbow has a socket at one end and a brass female thread at the other, so it takes a male-threaded tap, valve or pipe at a 90° bend. A male elbow has an external thread instead. A plain PPR elbow has sockets at both ends and only joins PP-R pipe to PP-R pipe. Use the female elbow where the part being connected has a male BSP thread.
