PPR Female filter 45° f/f

Keep the 45° leg and its plug accessible

Dirt held back by the stainless mesh settles in the 45° leg and is removed by opening the blind plug during system maintenance. Position the filter with the leg pointing downwards and enough free space to open the plug; the system is isolated and depressurised by a qualified installer before the plug is opened.

Description and application

The PPR female filter 45° is a Y-strainer for PP-R pipework that holds back sand, scale and other coarse dirt on a stainless steel mesh before it reaches valves, meters, pumps and appliances. It joins Ø20 and Ø25 PP-R pipe by socket fusion and is rated PN25, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C.

The PPR female filter 45° is an in-line strainer for PP-R hot and cold water installations. Water passes through a stainless steel mesh screen inside the body, which holds back coarse dirt such as sand, rust particles and scale. The retained dirt settles in the 45° leg, from where it is removed by opening the blind plug during routine maintenance, without cutting the pipe. The body is made of PP-R, from prime-grade polypropylene random copolymer (type 3), to EN ISO 15874-3, nominal pressure PN25. The operating temperature is 70 °C, with a maximum of 95 °C, so the filter can be used on both cold and hot water lines. The brass insert is CW617N with a lead content below 2.2 %, and threads follow the BSP parallel (gas) thread standard. The filter has female sockets at both ends and is joined to Ø20 or Ø25 PP-R pipe by socket fusion, with the same welding tool and procedure as the other fittings in the line. It welds reliably to THERMALINO PP-R pipe and becomes part of a homogeneous, leak-tight pipeline. Welding times and dimensions for each size are in the technical data sheet. The usual position is upstream of the equipment it protects: water meters, pressure reducing valves, pumps, boilers and water heaters. Isolation valves on both sides let the screen be cleaned without draining the system. The filter is supplied in white, in the Smart line series.

Questions

Can a PPR Y-strainer filter be installed on the hot water line from a boiler in a residential building running at about 70 °C?
Yes, the THERMALINO PPR female filter 45° is suitable for hot water lines at 70 °C. It is rated PN25 to EN ISO 15874-3, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C. Pressure ratings at other temperatures and service lives are given in the technical data sheet.
Where should a PPR filter 45° be placed in a domestic water installation to protect the meter, pressure reducing valve and boiler?
The PPR female filter 45° is placed upstream of the equipment it protects, such as the water meter, pressure reducing valve, pump or boiler inlet. Fit it with the 45° leg pointing downwards so that dirt collects in the leg, and leave space to open the blind plug. Isolation valves on both sides allow the screen to be cleaned without draining the system.
How is the PPR female filter 45° f/f joined to 20 mm and 25 mm PP-R pipe in a new plumbing installation?
The PPR female filter 45° f/f is joined to Ø20 or Ø25 PP-R pipe by socket fusion at both female ends. The installer uses the same heating tool and procedure as for the other PP-R fittings in the line, and the weld forms a homogeneous joint with the pipe. Welding times for each size are in the technical data sheet.
How often should the mesh in a PPR Y-strainer on a water supply line be cleaned, and how is it done?
The PPR female filter 45° is cleaned during routine system maintenance by opening the blind plug on the 45° leg and removing the dirt that has settled there. How often depends on the water quality: new installations usually shed the most debris, so the first checks come sooner. A qualified installer isolates and depressurises the line before opening the plug.
How can I tell if the filter on the water supply pipe in my house is clogged?
A clogged PPR filter usually shows as falling water pressure or reduced flow at the taps and appliances downstream, because dirt has built up on the mesh. The filter is under mains pressure, so a qualified installer should isolate the line, open the blind plug and clean the screen.
