PPR Male elbow
The brass male thread is BSP parallel (G), so it mates with G female threads and is not interchangeable with NPT threads. A parallel thread does not seal on its own: the joint is made with a thread sealant, tape or washer suited to the medium and temperature, and tightened without excessive force on the insert.
Description and application
The THERMALINO PPR male elbow is a PP-R fitting with a socket-fusion end for PP-R pipe and a CW617N brass BSP parallel (G) male thread, so one fitting changes direction and connects the pipe to a threaded valve, tap or appliance. It is rated PN25 to EN ISO 15874-3 for hot and cold water, operating temperature 70 °C, maximum 95 °C.
The PPR male elbow from the THERMALINO Eternal line turns a PP-R pipeline and ends it in an external thread in a single fitting. One end is a socket for fusion welding onto PP-R pipe; the other carries a brass male thread that screws into a female-threaded valve, tap, meter, manifold or appliance connection. This saves an extra adapter at the transition from plastic to metal. The body is moulded from prime-grade PP-R (polypropylene random copolymer, type 3) and the threaded insert is CW617N brass. The thread is BSP parallel (G), also known as gas thread. The fitting is made to EN ISO 15874-3, nominal pressure PN25, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C, so it can be used on both hot and cold water lines. Pressure ratings at other temperatures and service-life values are given in the technical data sheet. The range covers pipe sizes Ø20 to Ø32 mm with 1/2", 3/4" and 1" threads: Ø20x1/2", Ø25x1/2", Ø25x3/4", Ø32x3/4" and Ø32x1". Colours listed in the range are white, grey and green. On site, the socket end is fusion welded to the pipe with a welding tool and heating dies of the matching diameter. It is designed for a sound weld and long service life with THERMALINO PP-R pipes. Because the male threaded elbow has a parallel thread, the threaded joint is sealed with a sealant, tape or washer suited to the medium, and the insert is not over-tightened.

Questions
- Which PPR male elbow size do I need to connect a 25 mm PP-R pipe to a 3/4 inch female-threaded valve in a bathroom?
- For a 25 mm PP-R pipe and a 3/4" female-threaded valve, the right fitting is the PPR male elbow Ø25x3/4". PP-R pipe is sized by its outside diameter in millimetres, while the thread is given as a nominal inch size, so the two numbers do not match. The THERMALINO range covers Ø20x1/2", Ø25x1/2", Ø25x3/4", Ø32x3/4" and Ø32x1", with BSP parallel (G) threads.
- Can a PPR male elbow be used on hot water and central heating lines in a residential or commercial building?
- Yes, the THERMALINO PPR male elbow is suitable for hot and cold water lines within its PN25 rating. It is made to EN ISO 15874-3, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C. The allowed pressure falls as the temperature rises, so for heating circuits check the pressure-temperature table in the technical data sheet against the system's design values.
- How should the BSP male thread of a PPR male elbow be sealed when it is screwed into a brass valve or fitting?
- The thread of the PPR male elbow is BSP parallel (G), and a parallel thread does not seal by itself, so the joint needs a sealing material. Installers use a thread sealant or PTFE tape on the male thread, or a washer or O-ring at the face where the mating part allows it, chosen for the water temperature and medium. The thread mates with G female threads and is not interchangeable with NPT. Tighten firmly but without excessive force, so the brass insert and the PP-R body are not overloaded.
- How is the plastic end of a PPR male elbow joined to the pipe in a hot and cold water installation?
- The PPR male elbow is joined to PP-R pipe by socket fusion welding: the pipe end and the fitting socket are heated together on a welding tool with dies of the same diameter, then pushed together and held until the joint sets. The body is prime-grade PP-R (type 3) and is designed for a sound weld with THERMALINO PP-R pipes. Only the threaded end is screwed; the socket end is never threaded or glued.
- What is the difference between a PPR male elbow, a female elbow and a plain PPR elbow when connecting pipes to taps and valves?
- A PPR male elbow has a socket-fusion end and an external brass thread, so it screws into a female-threaded component such as a valve, tap or appliance connection. A female threaded elbow has an internal thread and takes a male-threaded part, while a plain PPR elbow has fusion sockets at both ends and only changes direction within the PP-R line. The male version combines the change of direction and the threaded transition in one fitting, which avoids an extra adapter and one more joint.
