PPR Plastic transition union adaptor f/f
This all-plastic union is intended mainly for bridging two cut pipe ends during a repair or for a temporary joint. Where the joint must stay in service for many years, choose the brass-bodied version of the same union.

Description and application
The PPR Plastic transition union adaptor f/f is a detachable PPR union with a socket fusion end on each side, joining two PP-R pipes of Ø20, Ø25 or Ø32 mm so that the line can be opened again without cutting. It is made of PP-R to EN ISO 15874-3, rated PN20, and is used mainly for repairs and temporary joints in hot and cold water lines.
The PPR Plastic transition union adaptor f/f is an all-plastic PPR union with a female socket fusion end on each side and a detachable union joint in the middle. It joins two PP-R pipes of the same diameter, and the joint can be opened and closed again without cutting the pipe. It is available for Ø20, Ø25 and Ø32 mm pipe, in white. The fitting is made of PP-R (polypropylene random copolymer, type 3) from prime grade raw material, to EN ISO 15874-3. It is rated PN20, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C. It belongs to the Eternal line and is designed to weld with THERMALINO PP-R pipes, giving a homogeneous joint and a long service life. Permissible pressures at other temperatures and service lives are given in the technical data sheet. Its main role is repair work. When a PP-R line is damaged, the installer cuts out the faulty section and bridges the two pipe ends with this union, which also leaves a point where the line can be opened later. For a joint that must remain in service long term, the brass-bodied version of the union is recommended. Each union half is joined to the pipe by socket fusion with a socket fusion welding machine: the pipe is cut square, marked for insertion depth, the pipe end and the socket are heated together, pushed together without turning and left to cool undisturbed. The two halves are then joined by the union nut. Heating times for each size are in the technical data sheet. Work on a line under pressure is done by a qualified installer after the system has been isolated and drained.

Questions
- Should I fit a plastic PPR union or a brass-bodied union on a hot water line that will stay in service for many years?
- For a joint that must stay in service for many years, the brass-bodied version of the PPR union is recommended; this plastic PPR union f/f is intended mainly for repairs and temporary joints. The plastic version is made of PP-R to EN ISO 15874-3, rated PN20, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C, and it is the practical choice when two cut pipe ends must be bridged quickly and the line may need to be opened again.
- How is a plastic PPR union with two female socket fusion ends installed when repairing a leaking PP-R pipe inside a bathroom wall?
- The plastic PPR union f/f is installed by socket fusion: a qualified installer isolates and drains the line, cuts out the damaged section, welds one union half onto each pipe end and then joins the halves with the union nut. Each weld is made with a socket fusion welding machine: the pipe is cut square, marked for insertion depth, heated together with the socket, pushed in without turning and left to cool undisturbed. Heating times for Ø20, Ø25 and Ø32 mm are in the technical data sheet.
- What does a union do in a PP-R hot and cold water system, and where should a plumber put one?
- A PPR union is a detachable joint that lets a PP-R line be separated and reconnected without cutting the pipe. Plumbers place unions where a section may need to come out later: at repair points, next to water heaters, pumps, filters and meters, and at equipment that is serviced or replaced. This THERMALINO union has socket fusion ends for PP-R pipe on both sides and is used mainly for repairs and temporary joints; for permanent service points the brass-bodied version is recommended.
- How do you connect an HDPE water supply pipe to a PP-R pipe, and can this plastic PPR union be used for that joint?
- An HDPE pipe cannot be joined to PP-R with this plastic PPR union, because both of its socket fusion ends are made for PP-R pipe and HDPE and PP-R are not fusion-welded to each other. The transition is made mechanically instead: typically a threaded adaptor fused onto each pipe, one in PE and one in PP-R, screwed together, or flanges on larger diameters. The work should be done by a qualified installer using fittings rated for the line's pressure and temperature.
- Can plastic PP-R pipes be mixed with metal plumbing pipes such as copper or galvanised steel when renovating an older building?
- PP-R pipes can be combined with copper or galvanised steel pipes, but the joint is made with a threaded or flanged transition fitting, not with this all-plastic PPR union. This union has socket fusion ends on both sides, so it joins PP-R to PP-R only. Where the plastic-to-metal joint must also be detachable and stay in service long term, a PP-R fitting with a metal threaded part or the brass-bodied union is the appropriate choice.
