PPR Radiator ball valve straight
The radiator end is a threaded tail with a union nut. The tail is screwed into the radiator tapping on its own, and the nut then joins it to the valve. This means a valve already fused to the PP-R pipework can be connected or disconnected without turning it on its axis.

Description and application
The PPR radiator ball valve straight is a PN25 isolating valve that connects PP-R central heating pipework to a radiator. One end is socket-fused to the pipe, and the other is a BSP parallel (G) male thread tail with a union nut for the radiator. It comes in Ø20 x 1/2", Ø25 x 1/2" and Ø25 x 3/4".
The PPR radiator ball valve straight from the Eternal line is an in-line ball valve that opens and closes the flow to a radiator in PP-R heating installations. It runs straight, with the pipe and the radiator connection on the same axis. It comes in three sizes, Ø20 x 1/2", Ø25 x 1/2" and Ø25 x 3/4", and in white or grey. The body is PP-R, made from prime-grade polypropylene random copolymer (type 3) raw material, to EN ISO 16135. It is rated PN25, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C, which suits radiator circuits. The PP-R end is made for socket fusion with THERMALINO PP-R pipes, giving a homogeneous joint and a long service life. The threaded part is a CW617N brass insert, a brass with a lead content below 2.2 %, in line with European norms. Pressure ratings at other temperatures and service-life values are in the technical data sheet. The valve is installed in two steps. First, the PP-R end is socket-fused to the pipe of the same diameter with a standard fusion tool. Then the radiator end, a BSP parallel (G) male thread tail with a union nut, is connected. The tail goes into the radiator tapping first, and the nut joins it to the valve, so the valve body is never turned on its axis. Parallel threads do not seal on the thread itself, so the joint into the radiator is sealed with a suitable thread sealant or sealing ring. Installation on a heating system under pressure should be done by a qualified installer.

Questions
- Can a straight PPR radiator ball valve replace the usual radiator valves on a low-temperature radiator system fed by a heat pump?
- The PPR radiator ball valve straight can isolate a radiator on a low-temperature system, but it opens and closes the flow and does not replace a thermostatic or lockshield valve for room control and balancing. A ball valve is an on/off valve. Where room temperature control or hydraulic balancing is needed, those functions must be provided elsewhere in the circuit. The valve is rated PN25, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum of 95 °C, which covers low-temperature radiator circuits.
- Do all radiator valves fit all radiators, and will a PPR radiator ball valve fit a panel radiator with a 1/2 inch tapping?
- The PPR radiator ball valve straight fits radiators with a BSP parallel (G) tapping of the same size as its tail: 1/2" or 3/4". Not every valve fits every radiator. Check three things: the thread size and type of the radiator tapping, the outside diameter of the PP-R pipe (Ø20 or Ø25), and the layout. A straight valve suits pipework that runs in line with the radiator connection. Where the pipe has to turn 90 degrees, an angled pattern is the usual choice.
- How do I know which PPR radiator ball valve I need for a PP-R heating circuit, Ø20 or Ø25, and 1/2 or 3/4 inch?
- The right PPR radiator ball valve is chosen by two sizes: the outside diameter of the PP-R pipe and the thread of the radiator tapping. The range covers Ø20 x 1/2" and Ø25 x 1/2" for the common 1/2" radiator connection, and Ø25 x 3/4" for radiators with a 3/4" tapping. The PP-R end must match the pipe diameter for socket fusion. The thread is BSP parallel (G), so the radiator tapping must be parallel BSP of the same size.
- How should parallel BSP threads be sealed when a PPR radiator ball valve tail is fitted into a steel panel radiator?
- A PPR radiator ball valve tail with a BSP parallel (G) thread needs a sealing medium or a sealing ring, because a parallel thread does not seal on the thread alone. Installers usually build up PTFE tape or thread-sealing cord on the tail, enough to form a seal when tightened, or use a sealing ring against a shoulder where the tail has one. The union nut between the tail and the valve body seals on its own faces and does not need tape. This work on a pressurised heating system should be done by a qualified installer.
- What are the different types of radiator valves, and where does a straight PPR radiator ball valve fit among them in a heating installation?
- Radiator valves differ by function and by shape, and the PPR radiator ball valve straight is an in-line isolating valve for PP-R pipework. By function, there are manual control valves, thermostatic valves that respond to room temperature, and lockshield valves that balance the system. By shape, there are straight, angled, corner and H-block valves. This valve is a straight ball valve that opens and closes the flow, with a socket fusion end for PP-R pipe and a BSP parallel tail with union nut for the radiator.
