PPR Stop valve
Turning the handle raises or lowers the spindle, and in its lowest position the spindle presses onto the seat at the base of the T-shaped body to stop the water. The valve can therefore be left part-open to set the flow rate, as well as closed fully to isolate the line.

Description and application
The THERMALINO PPR stop valve is a PN25 socket-fusion valve with a PP-R body and a CW617N brass insert that shuts off and regulates the water flow in PP-R hot and cold water lines, in sizes Ø20, Ø25 and Ø32. It is fused into the line and stays in the wall, typically at the entry to a bathroom, a kitchen or an apartment.
The PPR stop valve in the Eternal line is a screw-down valve for PP-R water installations. Turning the handle raises or lowers a spindle; in its lowest position the spindle presses onto the seat at the base of the T-shaped body and stops the flow. Between fully open and fully closed, the valve can be left part-open, so it regulates the flow rate as well as isolating the line. The body is PP-R, made from prime-grade polypropylene random copolymer (type 3), and the insert is CW617N brass with a lead content below 2.2 %. The valve has a nominal pressure of PN25, an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C. Permissible pressures at other temperatures are given in the technical data sheet. It is available in Ø20, Ø25 and Ø32, in white, grey and green brass. It is joined by socket fusion: the valve and the pipe ends are heated and pushed together to form a single, homogeneous joint. The valve is designed to fuse with THERMALINO PP-R pipes, for a sound weld and a long service life of the joint. Because the PP-R body stays inside the wall after installation, the valve is usually placed where a part of the installation must be isolated: at the supply to a bathroom or a kitchen, or at the entry to an apartment. There, the water to that area can be shut off or reduced when a repair is needed, while the rest of the building stays in service.

Questions
- When choosing a valve for a PP-R water line in an apartment, what is the difference between a ball valve and a globe-type stop valve?
- A PPR stop valve works like a globe valve: a spindle moves down onto a seat in multiple turns, so it can both shut off and regulate the flow. A ball valve turns a quarter-turn and is meant to be fully open or fully closed. In the THERMALINO PPR stop valve, the spindle presses onto the seat at the base of the T-shaped body to close, and any intermediate position reduces the flow. A ball valve gives a straighter flow path with lower pressure loss when open, while a stop valve gives control over the flow rate.
- When should a plumber avoid a ball valve and fit a PPR stop valve instead on a bathroom or kitchen supply line?
- A PPR stop valve should be fitted instead of a ball valve wherever the flow on the line needs to be reduced or set, not only switched on and off. Ball valves are not intended for long-term part-open use, because high-velocity flow at a partly opened ball can wear the seat. The THERMALINO PPR stop valve is designed to be left part-open, so it suits bathroom, kitchen and apartment entry lines where the water must be throttled or shut off for repair.
- How is a PPR stop valve joined to PP-R pipes, and can it be concealed inside a bathroom wall?
- The THERMALINO PPR stop valve is joined to PP-R pipes by socket fusion and is intended to be concealed in the wall, with the PP-R body remaining inside the wall after installation. Socket fusion makes the valve and pipe one homogeneous joint, and the valve is designed to fuse with THERMALINO PP-R pipes. As with any pressurised water line, the fusion and the pressure test of the installation are carried out by a qualified installer before the wall is closed.
- Can a PN25 PPR stop valve be used on the hot water line of a residential building as well as on cold water?
- Yes, the THERMALINO PPR stop valve is rated PN25 and can be used on hot and cold water lines, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C. The permissible pressure falls as the temperature rises, so the pressure at the actual working temperature should be checked in the pressure-temperature table of the technical data sheet before the valve is specified.
