PPR Union adaptor f/f
The brass half of this union can be undone and remade without cutting the pipe. This makes the adaptor the right choice at points where equipment, such as a towel radiator or an expansion vessel, may later be serviced or replaced, and at joints that need easy access for repair.

Description and application
The THERMALINO PPR brass union f/f joins a PP-R pipe by socket fusion to a female BSP parallel thread through a detachable CW617N brass union, so the connection can be opened later without cutting the pipe. It is rated PN20, made to EN ISO 15874-3 and available from Ø20 to Ø63.
The PPR Union adaptor f/f from the THERMALINO Eternal line is a transition fitting for PP-R pipeline systems. It has a female socket on the plastic side, welded to the pipe by socket fusion, and a detachable brass union with a female BSP parallel thread, also called gas thread, on the other side. Because the union can be opened and closed again, it suits connections that may need to change over time, such as towel radiators and expansion vessels, and joints that need easy access for repair. The plastic body is made from prime-grade PP-R, a random polypropylene copolymer (type 3), and conforms to EN ISO 15874-3. The fitting is designed for socket fusion with THERMALINO PP-R pipes, giving a homogeneous weld and a long service life. The insert is CW617N brass with a lead content below 2.2 %, in line with European norms. The nominal pressure is PN20, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C. The permissible pressure at each temperature is given in the technical data sheet. This PPR brass union is used in hot and cold water supply and central heating installations in houses, apartment buildings and commercial buildings. It is available in Ø20, Ø25, Ø32, Ø40, Ø50 and Ø63, and in white and grey. To install it, the installer welds the PP-R socket to the pipe with a socket fusion tool, then connects the threaded part to the equipment or male-threaded fitting. The work on pressurised water and heating lines is carried out by a qualified installer.

Questions
- When should a plumber fit a PPR brass union instead of a fixed female threaded adaptor on a PP-R hot water or heating line?
- A PPR brass union is the right choice wherever a threaded connection may need to be opened later, because its brass union can be undone without cutting the pipe. Typical points are towel radiators, expansion vessels, pumps and other equipment that may be serviced or replaced, and joints that need easy access for repair. Where the connection will never be opened, a fixed threaded adaptor is enough.
- What thread does the THERMALINO PPR brass union have, and will it fit the BSP connection of a towel radiator or expansion vessel?
- The THERMALINO PPR brass union has a female BSP parallel thread, also known as gas thread, on its CW617N brass part. It therefore connects to equipment and fittings with a matching male BSP parallel thread. The thread size for each pipe diameter from Ø20 to Ø63 is given in the technical data sheet.
- Can a PN20 PPR brass union be used on a central heating circuit in an apartment building running at around 70 °C?
- The PPR brass union is suitable for central heating: it is rated PN20, with an operating temperature of 70 °C and a maximum temperature of 95 °C, and its PP-R body conforms to EN ISO 15874-3. The permissible working pressure falls as the temperature rises, so the installer checks the pressure at the system temperature in the technical data sheet.
- How is a PPR brass union joined to PP-R pipe, and is it designed to weld to THERMALINO PP-R pipes?
- The PPR brass union is joined to the pipe by socket fusion: the pipe end and the fitting's PP-R socket are heated with a socket fusion tool and pushed together. It is designed for socket fusion with THERMALINO PP-R pipes, giving a homogeneous weld. The threaded side is then connected to the equipment. Installation on pressurised water and heating lines is done by a qualified installer.
- Is the brass in a PPR brass union suitable for a hot and cold drinking water installation in a residential building?
- The brass part of the THERMALINO PPR brass union is CW617N with a lead content below 2.2 %, in line with European norms for this alloy. The PP-R body conforms to EN ISO 15874-3, the standard for PP-R plastics piping in hot and cold water installations. Local drinking water regulations and approvals should be checked for each project.
