PE-RT Pipe in corrugated sleeve

One continuous run between connection points keeps the pipe replaceable

Lay each run in one length from the manifold to the outlet, with joints only at the two connection points. With no joints inside the sleeve, the pipe can later be withdrawn and a new length drawn in without opening the wall or floor.

Description and application

PE-RT Pipe in corrugated sleeve is a Ø16x2.0 PE-RT pipe to EN ISO 22391-2, supplied inside a protective corrugated sleeve as a pipe in pipe system for hot and cold water and heating lines run from a manifold to each outlet. The sleeve protects the pipe inside walls and floors and allows a damaged run to be withdrawn and replaced without breaking into the structure.

PE-RT Pipe in corrugated sleeve is a Ø16x2.0 single-layer PE-RT pipe supplied already inside a protective corrugated sleeve, ready for use in a pipe in pipe system. The pipe conforms to EN ISO 22391-2 and is rated for application Class 1, Class 2 and Class 5 at 8 bar and Class 4 at 10 bar. Its maximum operating pressure is 8 bar and its maximum operating temperature 70 °C. It is supplied in 100 m coils, in red and in blue, so hot and cold lines can be told apart on site. The long coil length lets each run go from the manifold to the outlet in one piece. Wall passages, changes of direction and bends need no intermediate fittings, so the only joints are at the two connection points, where they stay accessible. Once built into walls, floors or screed, the corrugated sleeve protects the pipe from the surrounding material. If a run is ever damaged, the pipe can be pulled out of the sleeve and a new length drawn in, without opening the wall or floor. This makes the system a practical choice for manifold-based drinking water distribution and for heating connections in apartments, houses, hotels and other buildings. Connections at the manifold and at the outlet are made with fittings suitable for Ø16x2.0 PE-RT pipe. The pressure ratings for each application class and the full dimensional data are given in the technical data sheet.

Where it is used
  • Hot and cold drinking water distribution from a manifold to each outlet
  • Underfloor heating and low-temperature heating connections
  • Radiator connections from heating manifolds, within 8 bar and a maximum operating temperature of 70 °C
  • Concealed runs in walls, floors and screed where the pipe must stay replaceable
  • Apartments, houses and residential renovations
  • Hotels, hospitals, schools and office buildings

Questions

What is a pipe in pipe system in a building's plumbing and heating installation, and how does a PE-RT pipe in corrugated sleeve work?
A pipe in pipe system is an installation in which the water-carrying pipe runs inside a protective outer sleeve, and the THERMALINO PE-RT Pipe in corrugated sleeve is supplied with the Ø16x2.0 PE-RT pipe already inside its corrugated sleeve. Each run goes in one length from the manifold to the outlet. The sleeve protects the pipe inside the wall or floor and leaves room to withdraw it later.
Can a damaged PE-RT pipe in a pipe in pipe system be replaced without breaking the wall tiles or the floor screed?
A damaged PE-RT Pipe in corrugated sleeve can be replaced by pulling the pipe out of its sleeve and drawing a new length in, without opening the wall or floor. This works because each run is laid in one continuous length with joints only at the manifold and the outlet. The work should be carried out by a qualified installer, with the system isolated and depressurised.
Does a pipe in pipe system need fittings at wall passages and bends when running from a bathroom manifold to each tap?
A pipe in pipe system built with the THERMALINO PE-RT Pipe in corrugated sleeve needs no fittings at wall passages, changes of direction or bends, because the 100 m coil allows each run to be laid in one piece. The only joints are at the two connection points, the manifold and the outlet, where they remain accessible. Fewer joints in concealed runs also means fewer places where a leak can start.
Which application classes and pressures is the sleeved PE-RT pipe rated for in drinking water and underfloor heating installations?
The PE-RT Pipe in corrugated sleeve is rated to EN ISO 22391-2 for Class 1, Class 2 and Class 5 at 8 bar and for Class 4 at 10 bar. The maximum operating pressure is 8 bar and the maximum operating temperature 70 °C. Check the class of the intended service against these values; the full table is in the technical data sheet.
Why is the PE-RT pipe in corrugated sleeve offered in red and blue for a domestic hot and cold water installation?
The PE-RT Pipe in corrugated sleeve comes in red and blue so that hot and cold water runs can be identified at the manifold and at each outlet. Both colours are the same Ø16x2.0 PE-RT pipe to EN ISO 22391-2, supplied in 100 m coils. Clear marking helps the installer connect each run correctly and makes later service easier.
