Single coil indirect water heater
The inside of the tank is coated with an epoxy resin approved to WRAS BS 6920-1, so the stored water may be supplied as domestic hot water in drinking water installations. A magnesium anode, fitted as standard, adds protection against corrosion.

Description and application
The Eternal line single coil indirect hot water storage tank heats domestic water through a coil fed by a boiler, heat pump or solar circuit and stores it ready for use. It is available from 100 L to 3000 L, rated for a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar and a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C.
The single coil indirect water heater from the THERMALINO Eternal line is an indirect hot water storage tank: water from a heat source flows through the coil inside the tank and heats the domestic water around it, without the two ever mixing. It works with a gas boiler, a heat pump or a solar thermal circuit, and an external electric heater can be connected as an additional or backup heat source. The tank keeps a store of hot water ready for continuous use, which suits buildings where several outlets draw hot water at the same time. The inside of the tank is protected by an epoxy resin coating approved to WRAS BS 6920-1, and a magnesium anode is fitted as standard. The body is insulated with rigid PU foam to limit heat loss from the stored water. The tank is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar, with a test pressure of 13 bar, and a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C. It is supplied with a pressure gauge and has a navy finish. A cleaning flange gives access to the inside of the tank, so sediment can be removed and the coil and anode inspected during periodic maintenance. Sizes run from 100 L for a single home up to 3000 L for hotels, hospitals and schools. The cylinder is connected to the heat source circuit through the coil and to the domestic cold and hot water lines by a qualified installer, who also fits the safety and relief devices that local regulations require for a pressurised hot water cylinder. Connection sizes and coil data for each volume are given in the technical data sheet.

Questions
- What size indirect hot water storage tank do I need for a house with three bathrooms and a boiler or heat pump?
- The size of an indirect hot water storage tank depends on how many showers and taps may run at the same time, how long peak use lasts and how much output the heat source can deliver to the coil. The Eternal line single coil tank is available in 100, 160, 200, 300, 400, 500, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 L, so smaller volumes suit single homes and the larger ones suit villas with several bathrooms or commercial buildings. A heating engineer should confirm the volume against the expected peak demand and the heat source output.
- Can an unvented indirect cylinder supply two showers at once in a large house or a small hotel?
- An unvented indirect cylinder can supply two or more showers at once when its stored volume and the heat source output match the peak demand. The single coil indirect water heater stores hot water ready for use and is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar, which makes it well suited to buildings with several bathrooms in use at the same time. The flow at each shower also depends on the mains pressure and the pipework, which the installer checks at design stage.
- How can I get more hot water from an indirect water heater during peak hours in a busy building?
- More hot water from an indirect water heater comes from a larger stored volume, a higher-output heat source on the coil, or an additional electric heater connected to the tank. The single coil tank accepts an external electric heater, which can support the boiler, heat pump or solar circuit when demand is high. Where demand regularly exceeds the store, a larger volume from the 100 L to 3000 L range is the more lasting solution.
- How often should the magnesium anode in an indirect hot water cylinder be inspected or changed?
- The magnesium anode in an indirect hot water cylinder should be inspected regularly and replaced once it is largely consumed, because the rate at which it wears depends mainly on local water quality. The single coil indirect water heater is supplied with a magnesium anode as standard, and its cleaning flange gives access for inspecting the inside of the tank and removing sediment. Inspection is usually more frequent in the first period of use until a suitable interval for the local water is known; the work is carried out by a qualified installer with the heat source isolated and the tank depressurised.
- What size temperature and pressure relief valve does an indirect water heater on a sealed system need?
- The temperature and pressure relief valve for an indirect water heater is sized by the installer to the heat input of the source and to local regulations, and its setting must stay within the limits of the tank. The single coil indirect water heater is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar and a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C, with a test pressure of 13 bar. Connection sizes for each volume are given in the technical data sheet.
