Single coil indirect water heater without cleaning flange
The tank has a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar and a test pressure of 13 bar, so the cold supply must be protected by a safety valve and, where the mains pressure can exceed this limit, a pressure reducing valve. The pressure and connection data for the coil are given in the technical data sheet.

Description and application
This single coil indirect water heater stores domestic hot water heated by a coil connected to a heat pump, gas boiler or solar thermal system, so hot water is always ready. It is available from 100 to 3000 L, with a WRAS BS 6920-1 approved epoxy resin coating, and is supplied with a magnesium anode and a pressure gauge.
The single coil indirect water heater is a hot water storage tank with one internal heat exchanger coil. Water from an external heat source, such as a heat pump, a gas boiler or a solar thermal system, circulates through the coil and heats the domestic water stored in the tank without the two circuits mixing. The stored water stays ready for use, which suits buildings where many outlets draw hot water at the same time. The inside of the tank is protected by an epoxy resin coating approved to WRAS BS 6920-1, so the tank is suitable for drinking water installations. A magnesium anode and a pressure gauge come fitted as standard, and the tank can also take an external electric immersion heater as a backup or additional heat source. Insulation is rigid PU foam or soft foam. The tank has a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar, a test pressure of 13 bar and a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C. This version has no cleaning flange. The range runs from 100 L to 3000 L, which covers everything from a single home to hotels, hospitals and schools with heavy simultaneous shower demand. In large villas, mountain houses and holiday homes it supplies several bathrooms at once. Where there is no gas supply, it stores hot water from whatever heat source is available. The installer connects the coil to the flow and return of the heat source, usually with a dedicated circulator or zone valve, and connects the tank to the cold supply and the hot water distribution. A safety valve and an expansion vessel go on the domestic side. Connection sizes, dimensions and coil data for each capacity are in the technical data sheet.

Questions
- How does a single coil indirect water heater work when it is connected to a heat pump, gas boiler or solar system?
- A single coil indirect water heater heats stored domestic water through one internal coil, and the coil carries hot water from the heat pump, gas boiler or solar circuit. The heating water and the domestic water stay separate. One coil is designed for one primary heat source, and an external electric immersion heater can be added as a second source.
- Can I fit an electric immersion heater to a single coil indirect water heater as backup when the heat pump or solar output is low?
- Yes, the single coil indirect water heater can take an external electric immersion heater as a backup or additional heat source. The immersion heater is not included as standard; it is ordered separately. Because it runs on mains electricity, a qualified electrician must connect it.
- Is the single coil indirect water heater approved for drinking water in hotels, hospitals and residential buildings?
- The single coil indirect water heater is suitable for drinking water systems because the inside of the tank has an epoxy resin coating approved to WRAS BS 6920-1. A magnesium anode, supplied as standard, gives extra corrosion protection, so the tank can be used for potable hot water in homes, hotels, hospitals and schools.
- What pressure and temperature limits apply to a single coil indirect water heater on a mains-fed hot water system?
- The single coil indirect water heater tank has a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar, a test pressure of 13 bar and a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C. A safety valve and an expansion vessel are needed on the domestic side, and a pressure reducing valve where mains pressure can exceed 10 bar. Coil limits are in the technical data sheet.
- Which tank capacity of single coil indirect water heater should I choose for a hotel or a villa with several bathrooms?
- Choose the single coil indirect water heater capacity from the hot water demand at peak time, for example how many showers run at once, and from the heat source output. The range runs from 100 L to 3000 L. Small homes need a small tank, while villas, hotels, hospitals and schools need a large one. The heating engineer should size it using the coil data in the technical data sheet.
- How do I know the magnesium anode in my indirect water heater is worn, and who should replace it?
- Common signs of a worn magnesium anode in an indirect water heater are rusty or discoloured hot water, or a rotten-egg smell. The anode wears away on purpose to protect the tank. This model has no cleaning flange, so the anode should be checked at every service. A qualified installer should inspect and replace it, because the tank is under pressure.
