Single coil indirect water heater without cleaning flange
The tank's maximum operating pressure is 10 bar and its test pressure is 13 bar. Where the mains or booster pressure can exceed this, the installer fits a pressure reducing valve and a safety valve on the cold water inlet.

Description and application
The Smart line single coil indirect water heater stores domestic hot water heated by a coil connected to a heat pump, gas boiler or solar system. Its steel tank has a WRAS BS 6920-1 approved epoxy lining, comes in sizes from 100 to 3000 L and is rated for 10 bar and a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C.
The Smart line single coil indirect water heater is a storage tank that heats domestic water without a burner or heating element of its own. Hot water from a heat pump, gas boiler or solar system flows through the coil inside the tank, heats the stored water and returns to the heat source. The primary circuit and the domestic water stay separate, so a supply of hot water is always ready to use. The inside of the tank has an epoxy resin coating approved to WRAS BS 6920-1, which makes it suitable for drinking water installations. A magnesium anode and a pressure gauge come fitted as standard. The tank is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar, with a test pressure of 13 bar, and a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C. Insulation is rigid PU foam or soft foam, and the casing is navy. This version has no cleaning flange. It comes in twelve sizes, from 100 L for a single home up to 3000 L for buildings that need large amounts of hot water at the same time. An external electric heating element can be connected, giving a backup heat source when the main source cannot keep up or is switched off. The heat source flow and return are connected to the coil, and the cold water inlet and hot water outlet go to the domestic water system. A qualified installer fits the safety equipment that the local regulations require on the cold water inlet. Dimensions, connection sizes and coil data for each size are given in the technical data sheet.

Questions
- How does a single coil indirect water heater produce hot water when it is connected to a heat pump or gas boiler in a house?
- The single coil indirect water heater heats stored domestic water through a coil that carries hot water from the heat pump, boiler or solar system. The heating water passes through the coil, transfers its heat to the water in the tank and returns to the heat source, so the two circuits never mix. The tank stores the hot water at up to a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C, ready for use at any tap.
- Can one single coil indirect water heater be used with both solar collectors and a gas boiler in the same system?
- A single coil indirect water heater has one coil, so it is best connected to one heat source at a time. With two sources, such as solar and a boiler, the system designer can use a twin coil tank or arrange the controls so that only one source feeds the coil at a time. On this model, an external electric heating element can also be connected as a backup heat source.
- What maximum pressure and temperature is the single coil indirect water heater tank rated for on a mains-fed hot water system?
- The single coil indirect water heater tank is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar and a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C, with a test pressure of 13 bar. Where the supply pressure can exceed 10 bar, a pressure reducing valve and a safety valve are fitted on the cold water inlet. A qualified installer chooses and fits the safety equipment that the local regulations require.
- Is the single coil indirect water heater suitable for drinking water installations in hotels, hospitals and schools?
- Yes, the single coil indirect water heater is suitable for drinking water installations because its tank lining is an epoxy resin coating approved to WRAS BS 6920-1. With sizes from 100 L to 3000 L, it can store enough hot water for buildings where many showers are used at the same time.
- How often should the magnesium anode in an indirect water heater be checked, and what happens if it is worn out?
- The magnesium anode in an indirect water heater should be checked regularly, and more often where the water is hard, softened or aggressive, because the anode wears faster in those conditions. The anode corrodes in place of the tank, so a fully worn anode leaves the tank without this protection. A qualified installer checks and replaces the anode, with the tank isolated and depressurised.
