Twin coil indirect water heater without cleaning flange
This model has no cleaning flange, so the tank cannot be opened to remove scale or sediment by hand. Where the water is hard, plan water treatment upstream of the tank and have a qualified installer inspect the magnesium anode at regular intervals.

Description and application
The THERMALINO twin coil indirect water heater stores domestic hot water heated through two separate coils, so two heat sources such as a heat pump and a gas boiler can heat the same tank without their circuits mixing. Sizes run from 100 to 3000 L, with a WRAS BS 6920-1 approved epoxy coating for drinking water.
The twin coil indirect water heater is a storage tank for domestic hot water. Water from an external heat source flows through a coil inside the tank and heats the stored water indirectly, so hot water is ready for continuous use. Two separate coils let two sources feed the same tank without mixing, for example a heat pump on one coil and a gas boiler on the other, or a solar thermal circuit with a boiler as back-up. The inside of the tank is protected by a WRAS BS 6920-1 approved epoxy resin coating, so the tank can be used on drinking water installations. A magnesium anode and a pressure gauge are fitted as standard. The tank is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar, with a test pressure of 13 bar, and a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C. Insulation is rigid PU foam or soft foam, and the casing is navy. This model has no cleaning flange. The range covers 100, 160, 200, 300, 400, 500, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 L. The larger sizes suit hotels, hospitals and schools where many showers run at the same time. The smaller and mid-range sizes serve large villas, mountain houses and holiday homes with several bathrooms, and buildings without a gas supply that heat water from a heat pump, solar collectors or other sources. The coils are connected to the primary circuits of the heat sources, and the tank to the cold supply and the hot water distribution. An external electric heater can be connected as an additional or back-up heat source. Coil ratings, connection sizes and dimensions for each size are in the technical data sheet.

Questions
- Can a twin coil indirect water heater take an air source heat pump on one coil and a gas boiler on the other?
- Yes, the THERMALINO twin coil indirect water heater has two separate coils, so a heat pump and a gas boiler can each heat the stored water without their circuits mixing. In common practice the renewable source is connected to the lower coil and the boiler to the upper coil, so the boiler covers peaks when the heat pump cannot keep up. The coil ratings for each tank size are in the technical data sheet.
- Is a twin coil indirect water heater suitable for drinking water in a hotel or hospital where many showers run at once?
- Yes, the THERMALINO twin coil indirect water heater is suitable for drinking water installations, because the inside of the tank has a WRAS BS 6920-1 approved epoxy resin coating. Sizes up to 3000 L store enough hot water for buildings such as hotels, hospitals and schools where many showers are used at the same time.
- What maximum pressure and temperature is the tank of a twin coil indirect water heater rated for on a mains-fed system?
- The tank of the THERMALINO twin coil indirect water heater is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar and a maximum operating temperature of 95 °C. The test pressure of the tank is 13 bar. The installer fits the safety devices that local regulations require on pressurised hot water storage, and the system pressure must stay within the tank rating.
- Can an electric immersion heater be added to a twin coil indirect water heater as back-up when the boiler is off?
- Yes, an external electric heater can be connected to the THERMALINO twin coil indirect water heater as an additional or back-up heat source. This is useful in buildings without a gas supply or when the main heat sources are not running. The connection is made by a qualified electrician, and the heater rating should be chosen for the tank size.
- How often should the magnesium anode in an indirect water heater without a cleaning flange be checked, and what shows it is worn?
- The magnesium anode in the THERMALINO twin coil indirect water heater should be inspected regularly, and annual inspection is common practice, more often with hard or softened water. A worn anode can show as rust-coloured hot water, a metallic taste or a rotten-egg smell. Because the tank has no cleaning flange, the anode check is the main maintenance point; a qualified installer isolates, depressurises and services the tank.
